These aren't on the site, but they should be.
AotC is a Christian-principled game. The following rules are not meant to be
controlling, but rather to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for all players. By
being a part of AotC, you are implying agreement to follow these rules even
if you may not agree with what the rules say. Continuously ignoring and/or
breaking these rules will be taken as indication that you no longer wish to
be a part of our community.
This help file lists only the basic rules. We expect players to follow the
spirit of the rules, not just the letter of the law; if you think you have
found a way around the letter, you can be fairly sure you are violating the
spirit and will be treated no differently. If you're not sure whether
something is illegal, assume that it is unless a staff member tells you
otherwise, and always feel free to ask.
1. AotC is private property. Your presence is a privilege, not a right. All
staff members are to be respected as the final authority. Appeals or
problems involving staff members can be sent privately to a Shepherd or
Judge, or you may choose to speak with any staff member with whom you feel
most comfortable. Be prepared to fully explain your appeal or problem,
without holding back information about who else has already answered you and
why you feel it should be reconsidered. Respectful disagreement with staff
is not considered a violation of our rules.
2. AotC is dedicated to God. While we welcome all players regardless of
personal religion, we do expect all players to abide by rules based on the
Christian faith. No blasphemy or heresy will be tolerated on any of our
boards or channels, including private tells or notes. Type 'help blasphemy'
for more information on the definitions of blasphemy and heresy.
Sacrilegious titles or character names are also unacceptable. Sacrilegious
means denouncing God, exalting idols or satan, or anything else deemed to be
along those lines. If you appear to be in violation of any part of this,
the staff may investigate further.
3. Respect. There is to be no harassment of others in any way. Generally,
act in a mature fashion. Idle gossip is also not permitted. If you have an
issue, take it privately to the person you have the complaint against, or an
appropriate staff member if you feel you cannot do that. Keep your personal
disagreements personal. If problems spill into public channels, the staff
will take it as an invitation to become involved. Even private matters can
invite staff involvement if one party makes a complaint. For more
information on what it means to be respectful on AotC, type 'help ethics'.
4. Interacting with Staff. There is to be no harassment of our staff,
including in notes, says, tells, or public channels. This includes
repeatedly asking a staff member to reveal their alternate characters, or to
reveal their identity if they are invisible. It also includes using any
method to attempt to extract information about staff members' alts, and
publicly mentioning alts of staff. Attempting to pit one staffer against
another by getting them to contradict or override one another or override is
also not permitted. If you've asked once and they've said no to your request
for anything, that's the end of the matter. Appeal it appropriately as
explained in rule one.
5. Language. This is an all-ages MUD. Keep all foul or vulgar language on
the vulgar channel. This includes acronyms, blanked-out words, or vulgar
slang. If you expect others to know that you meant a vulgar word, it belongs
on the vulgar channel. The vulgar channel is not, however, appropriate for
insults or personal attacks. Rule 3 is no less applicable here than
elsewhere. For more about our policy on channel use, type 'help chanrules'.
6. Triggers and Botting. Triggers are permitted, but not to the extent that
they control your character. This includes triggers to do things such as
level or play freeze tag entirely while you are away from the window, and
triggers to keep you from idling out. This also includes triggers to run for
you while you sit back and watch. You should be the one making the executive
decisions, and the triggers should only be present to help out. Triggers
and/or botting are not permitted with any of the mini-games (Freeze Tag,
Mixups, Quote Game, etc.) General combat triggers and such are allowed for
arena matches and sparring, but not virtue battles.
7. Idling. Idling is permitted, but be aware that if we crash, your
character may be corrupted, and some of your progress may be lost, even
if you have saved. If you wish to minimize this risk, do not idle your
character.
8. Player killing. There is limited player killing as long as you follow the
rules. Type 'help pkill' for a list of rules. Player killing is a roleplay
activity, and is subject to the guidelines and rules found in 'help roleplay
guidelines' and 'help roleplay rules'.
9. Multiplaying. Your characters cannot be online at the same time, or aid
each other in any way, including dropping equipment with one and getting it
with another. Don't even make yourself look suspicious by having a friend
log one of your characters in while you have another logged in. The only
thing your alts may share is the knowledge you possess. Character-sharing is
not an acceptable way to get around this rule, as the character in question
will then be considered as an alt of both persons. If you wish to arrange
to allow multiple people from the same household to play together, talk to
a Legacy member about being multok'd.
10. Spam. Excessive spamming is not acceptable. For our definition of spam
see 'help spam'. The the only exception is while playing Freeze Tag, as
the Freeze Tag arena has its own way of dealing with spammed commands.
See 'help freezetag' for more information on that.
11. Kill stealing. There is no stealing of kills or interfering in others'
[Hit Return to continue]
fights. This includes mobs that are wounded or fleeing. Players can only
claim one mob at a time; you cannot weaken several mobs and claim them all
in such a fashion. If a player is standing in a room with a mob, assume that
the player is preparing to fight the mob and therefore has already claimed
it unless the player says otherwise. Also, do not interfere in others'
fights by spelling up or healing the mob they're attacking unless
specifically requested by the other player. Staff-run quests are not an
excuse to violate normal kill-stealing guidelines.
12. Bugs. If you find a bug, or think you may have found a bug, or if you
have found a loophole, or odd bonus, report it. Do not use it again, and do
not tell other players. If you tell another player about a bug and they
abuse it, you may be held equally responsible.
13. Color character usage. Do not force your color choice on others on the
various communication channels. If you use a colored "prefix" on channels,
end it with the proper variable listed in 'help c3'. Do not use beeps on
public channels. Be careful about overusing highlighted or blinking text, as
excessive use of it can become highly annoying.
14. Passwords. Anything that a character does, that character is responsible
for, good or bad. If somebody logs your character in and violates the rules,
you may have to deal with the consequences. If somebody logs your character
in and changes the password, effectively stealing the character, we cannot
fix it. If you forget your password, we also cannot fix it. Remember your
password, and keep it to yourself.
15. Cheating. Don't do it. Take enough pride in your skills to earn things
the legal way. This includes helping others to cheat, keeping secrets about
anybody's cheating, evading or helping others to evade staff-imposed
punishments, or accepting favors from staff members that appear "too good to
be true", particularly if such things are done in private or you are asked
not to speak of it. If such a thing occurs, notify a Shepherd or another
staff member you trust.
16. General mischief. Don't look for trouble. Even if the problems you
create are never serious enough to earn punishment, there will come a time
when the staff will notice the long list of little things, and will deem you
in violation of the spirit of the laws in question.
17. Changes to these rules are at the discretion of the administration, and
may be done without warning, notice, or even evidence of sanity.
Questions about anything not listed here can be directed to the staff. |
