Mike you probably should look for your homework out in the yard within the next 24/48 hours, gawd teachers hate messy homework.
Drilled a ¾ inch hole in plywood, then split in half on the table saw to give me a ¾” diameter gauge for my dowel. Look at those bubbles, smack in the center. No gaps perfectly round dowel in a ¾ “ hole….hey “whose better than me?” ( seems I’ve heard that somewhere before)
Sorry for the poor selection of wood (pine 2x4) with a large knot and small crack, smack in the middle…I had a deadline…and I’m late with my assignment. Trust me I will do this again with a better selection of wood. I just wanted to beat Mike to the punch Hey everyone.... whats that sound?...must of been Charles and Wayne's chin hitting the floor....

Well I can’t show you but let me explain. A chunk of 2x4 (all I had unless I glued something for the thickness I wanted). Roughed out on slow speed. Turned the speed up, using only my large gouge went at it from left to right (how I eat a corn on a cob ) moving the tool rest. I learned quickly to get even cuts was to first rub the gouge bevel (tipping the gouge handle down) onto the wood and then bringing the cutting edge into the wood (tipping the gouge handle up) however, my gouge handle always remained downward.
To even things out, used 100 grit sandpaper attached to wide piece of plywood. I was disappointed with the knot in the center. I tried to take it down but I was fearful the knot would come out and my piece breaking, so I left it. Oh yeah my hands started to cramp up towards the very end too. Gee I wonder why?

Hey Ace you might have been first but at least my spindle isn't pregant Here are a few pictures. The steady rest is for doing bigger pieces so I could not get all 3 wheels on the piece but with some silght hand pressure behind the spindle I was able to get it to work ok.
I used a roughing gouge and a skew gouge for most of it. Next week I am headed down to see Charles for 2 days and I am taking a thin hollowed vessel down to see if he can turn one to match. That should teach him to pick on us bowl turners
