This prompt comes up when trying to import media on iMac in MIT 353:

'There are no media files available. You will only be able to import shot logs.'

Then it is not possible to import video or stills. Shocked

When looking at the import settings, under "Media Creation" it is possible to keep the video resolution consitent with the tutorial, but it is impossible to change "Video Drives" or "Audio Drives"...the only option available under the tab is "All drives filtered out."

How should one select a drive?

Excellent run down! The unfortunate answer is, you can only select an external hard drive because as lab usesr, you and I are locked-out of the boot partition where Avid _must_ create OMFI MediaFiles if no other drive is available and selected.

Our AvidFreeDV tutorial covers how to use an external FireWire drive pretty well. http://www.uwm.edu/~type/116/SoftwareTutorials/ADVF-RD-Tutorials/ADVF-RD-Tutorialv01.htm If you want to buy a your own external FireWire hard drive to be able to edit in MIT 353 or in B-18 (on the macs only in B18), be sure to carefully read the suggestions about this in the syllabus before running out to buy any old harddrive:
http://www.uwm.edu/~type/116/06116_Syllabus.htm#RequiredClassSupplies
Flashcards or Pantherfile or DVD's will not work.

I'm sorry that you guys got into this pursuit/predicament today. Last semester there was some limited ability to do this and that is why Lilly thought it was still possible.

There are many things to keep straight in this class which is why I emphasized these decisions many weeks ago in the syllabus. Rob D.
