Hi All.

I recently have started experimenting with Alchemy grenades, and have altered my Sword toon (Skyscream) to have alchemy trained (and more recently Specialised) in order to throw these little know Alchemy grenades (Phials).

I was so impressed by the method, that I have decided to share it all with you here.

WHAT ARE THEY?
Alchchemy Grenades are Thrown weapons that are used as missiles that essentially cause Zero Damage, however they proc (or cast) Vulns on the target. They are used as an alternative to Life magic to cast vulns on creatures. They are limited by your BASE Alchemy stat (to wield), and there are 7 different levels ranging in power. As they are a stackable TW item, you can also weild them with a Shield equipped, which is great for ther Melee toons on DI or Viss.

BUT I DONT HAVE THROWN WEAPON...
It doesnt matter, when you wield any of the grandes, a spell is cast on you called "Phials Accuracy" that boosts your TW skill by 500 - This is enough to hit almost anything ingame, 100% of the time (at full power).

WHY WOULD I BOTHER.. I HAVE LIFE MAGIC..
Well, here is the special thing about the grenades.. The spellcraft of the item, which like any caster/wand/weapon in AC determines the skill that the spell hits with, is generally VERY high..

For example...

The Enchanted Iron Phial, which is the basic level Grenade, hits the Monster, and has a spellcraft value of 100. this is like a mage casting a vuln on the same creature with 100 Skill. A level 2 Vuln is the result.

At the top end, The Enchanted Mana Phial has 520 Spellcraft....

Think about that for a second.. What toon in Asherons Call, can easily cast imperil 7 with a skill that high? My mage Scrap (lev 250 CLAW), if he uses all the housing implements, and equips his focus stone, can make it to 489 Life with majors and epics.. The alchemy grenades cast with 30 more points of skill.. This is the beauty of the system.. Creatures never resist the spells... My experimenting on DI has had about 2-3 resists out of a few hundred uses.. What hybrid character can claim that.

The range of skils are:

Enchanted Silver Phial Lev4 Vulns - Spellcraft of 220
Enchanted Gold Phial Lev5 Vulns - Spellcraft of 270
Enchanted Pyreal Phial Lev6 Vulns - Spellcraft of 340
Enchanted Platinum Phial Lev6 Vulns - Spellcraft of 400
Empowered Platinum Phial Lev6 Vulns - Spellcraft of 460*
Enchanted Mana Phial Lev7 Vulns - Spellcraft of 520*
(* need to Be specialised and Capped to wield the last 2 levels)

I'm convinced, what do I have to do!
You will need to invest int he Alchemy Skill, and eventually Cap it to use the highest grenades. This is 6 points to train, and 6 more to specialise.

A little quirk is that 400 base Alchemy (for the top ones) is impossible for toons with only 10 Focus (assuming coord was 100). Alchemy is Foc+Coord/3, and specialised, with starting stats of 100/10/100/100/10/10 (common tank template), the maximum i could get to was 398 base.
I then moved 5 points of quickness to focus using the skill temples, and I made 401 base.

You then need to find you way to Xarabydun and visit Janie Al-Evv (41.8S 15.8E). He sells all the components you will need. (What i havent told you is that they are expensive.....)

I am having a blast with this template, I'd encourage anyone looking for something a bit different to the standard Life magic hybrid to give it a go.

Sky is still my toughest melee toon with grenades.

So much better than spec life.
