Chapter 1

“Oh she’s so beautiful,” Linda Fedun said as she held her precious newborn daughter on January 14, 1988. Exactly two years after she had given birth to Christopher Fedun, her second son.
“Can I hold her Mommy?” a little seven-year-olds voice asked. It was Matthew Fedun, the oldest child.
It was everything Phil and Linda Fedun had hoped for, a family of three children, two wonderful little sons and a beautiful baby girl. Two year old Chris was being held by his father Phil and looked at his little sister with a smile. He was the proud big brother of Mary Grace Fedun.
“Here you go Matt,” Linda handed Matt the little girl as he sat in the bed with her.
Months went by as the Fedun family got use to having yet another child in the house.
But everything changed on the cold dreary night on November 16, 1988. Everyone one in the Fedun household was asleep, Phil, Linda, Matt, Chris, and Mary.
“Be quiet Joe!” a man told his accomplice as they pride open the back door of the Fedun home. Once the door was open they stepped inside the kitchen.
“Let’s hurry it up Pete! They could wake up any minute!” Joe told the man as they stood in the kitchen.
Joe and Pete raided the Fedun home so silently, that a mouse was loud. They came to a door on a small hallway. It was partly open. They pushed it open very lightly. There were two boys in there. The one in the crib was standing up looking at the door and began making little cries.
“Quick! Close the door!” Pete pulled it shut. They walked to the next door and opened it. Inside was another baby crib. Joe and Pete stepped inside the room. The walked over to the crib. A young baby girl lies there, staring up at the two men. She made no noise. She just stared at the two men.
“You’re coming with us precious,” Pete said as he picked up the baby girl form her crib and wrapped her in her blankets.
“Pete! Put her back! We’re here to steal! Not kidnap!” Joe told his friend.
“Hush Joe! Do you know how much babies are worth right now?” he looked at Joe. “We could make up a birth certificate for her, get a fake signature for the mother, and put her up for an adoption agency that will pay us for her!”
“I don’t know…”Joe answered.
“Joe! Come on!” Pete told him and began to walk out the door.
Joe followed his friend even though he knew it was wrong! The walked back to the kitchen and Joe slammed the door shut after they were back outside.
“Joe!”
“What was that?” Linda sat up in bed shaking her husband to wake up. Phil was already getting up to see what happened.
“I don’t know. You check on the kids,” he told her as they got out of bed and he grabbed a baseball bat. Phil walked down the hallway and left Linda at the children’s bedrooms. Linda opened the door to her sons’ room. They were sound asleep. She then walked back to Mary’s room. But what she saw…she didn’t want to believe!
“Phil! Phil come quick!” Linda shouted from baby Mary’s bedroom. Phil came running quickly to his wife.
“What is it Linda?” Phil asked.
“Mary…. She’s…. She’s…. She’s gone!” Linda began crying her heart out. “My baby! My baby’s gone!”
Phil ran to check on the boys who were already woken up from their mother’s cry.
“Daddy what’s going on? Daddy?” Matt asked as he climbed out of his bed.
“Stay in here Matt! Keep an eye on Chris!” Phil told his son.
“But Daddy….” Matt tried.
“Stay here Matt!”
Phil ran throughout the house trying to find someone carrying around his only daughter. He found nobody. Just the backdoor pried open.
“Oh my….” Phil said at the sight. He grabbed the cordless phone and walked back to the hallway. He went inside his sons’ room. Matt was standing at Chris’ crib watching his little brother. Matt and Chris both looked up at their father. He was crying.
“What’s wrong Daddy?” Mat asked.
“Go back to sleep Matt. You too Chris,” he tucked Matt and Chris back in and closed the door. He walked back to Mary’s room where Linda was still crying on the floor. He dialed the police.
The police came about ten minutes later. They searched the entire neighborhood that night and next day. They found nothing. There was no sign of anyone having kidnapped a baby in the area. Phil and Linda put posters everywhere asking if anyone had seen their daughter. Nobody had. For the next few months they tried hard to find Mary, but no sign of her ever turned up. Not the slightest clue. The Feduns’ could never let go of what happened that November night. Never could they forget what had happened to their baby girl.

Chapter 2

17 years later
“Chris wake up!” Linda woke her son up on January 14, 2005. “Happy Birthday sweetie.” She kissed her son on his forehead.
“Morning Mom, thanks,” Chris woke up from sleeping in.
“Brittany, Brandon, Lesley, and Libby are all in the living room, so hurry up and get ready,” Linda told Chris and left the room. Chris got ready and went out into the living room to see his friends and fellow Jump5ers.
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Chris, Happy Birthday to you!” They all sung in unison. Chris smiled. Matt and Phil were sitting in chairs across the room with Linda.
“Happy Birthday little bro,” Matt told his little brother. Phil smiled to his now 19-year-old son. He looked at Linda who was happy for Chris, but also saddened.
“Mom? Are you ok?” Chris asked looking at his mother.
“Yes sweetie, I’m fine. I’m going into the kitchen, anyone want anything?” Linda replied and got up. She left for the kitchen. Matt, Chris, and Phil exchanged glances. Matt and Phil knew what was going on, but Chris didn’t. Matt got up to go to his mother in the kitchen. She was crying and looking at a picture she had pulled out of her desk in the kitchen.
“Mom?” Matt asked looking to her. She turned around crying.
“She’s 17 today,” Linda told Matt showing him the picture of their family the day Mary was born.
“I know Mom,” Matt frowned to his mom. He too missed his little sister. He hadn’t seen her since she was nearly one. “Chris doesn’t even remember her does he Mom?”
“No honey, I don’t think so.”
“Hey Dad, what’s up with Mom?” Chris asked, while the rest were still in the living room. “She’s like this every year on my birthday.”
Phil looked at his son. “She’s just upset her little boy is growing up.” He couldn’t think of anything to say.
******************Another part of Nashville*************************
“Happy Birthday Jenny!” Anne James told her 17-year-old daughter. Jenny woke to her mother and father Ben in her room on her birthday.
“Morning. Guess what? I’m 17! Oh yeah!” Jenny said excitedly.
Jenny James was the only daughter of Ben and Anne James. She grew up with everything a kid could ever want, a loving mother and a terrific father. She loved her parents! She loved them more than anything in the world.
“Listen Jen, we have some bad news,” Ben told his daughter. “Your mom and I need to drive out to Beckley today, we’ll be back in time for your party. Ok?”
“Sure Daddy, no problem, I was going to go to the mall with Zoë and Kyle today anyway so…” Jenny replied.
“I’m glad it’s not a problem,” Anne told Jenny. T
****************************Back at the Fedun home*************************
“Hey, is it ok if I go out with Lesley, Libby, Brittany, and Brandon?” Chris asked his parents who were in the kitchen still with Matt.
“Sure, see ya later,” Phil told his son. Chris left and Phil, Linda, and Matt were left alone.
“Phil! I want our daughter back!” Linda told her husband and oldest son.
“Linda…” Phil began.
“No Phil! I want Mary back!” Linda shouted at the top of her lungs. “I want my daughter back.
“Mom, Mary not even be…. I mean…” Matt tried, but couldn’t.
“Linda, we tried looking for her for an entire year. Chris doesn’t even remember Mary. What else can we do?” Phil told his wife.
“I don’t care! Mary is our daughter, she’s still out there, we need her back!” Linda told them.
“I’ll call the police office then and start an investigation,” Phil told his wife and picked up the phone. He went in for a meeting with Linda and Matt. The man they met with, Officer John Harris told he would start working on the investigation immediately.

Chapter 3

*****************************Back at James House************************
“Bye Jen, we’ll see you in a couple hours,” Ben kissed his daughter on her forehead and got into the driver’s seat of his car. Anne waved goodbye as they pulled out of the driveway. Jenny ran inside to get ready to go to the mall with her friends Zoë and Kyle.
“Happy birthday Jen!” Zoë and Kyle told Jenny when Jenny pulled up to their house in her faded-yellow 1976 beat-up old convertible.
“Thanks guys,” Jenny told them as they got into her car and buckled up. They were at the mall for about two hours when Jenny got a call.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
“Hello?” Jenny answered her cell phone.
“Yes, hello, is this Jennifer James? Benjamin and Anne James’s daughter?” a deep man’s voice asked.
“Yes. Who is this?” Jenny replied. Zoë and Kyle looked at her puzzled look.
“Sorry, I am John Harris. I am a police officer. I think you need to come to the Nashville Hospital immediately please, or we could send a car for you,” he answered.
“Ok, I be there in ten minutes,” Jenny told him and hung up.
“Who was it Jenny?” Kyle asked her.
“That was Officer Harris, he told me to come to the hospital, something’s wrong with my parents,” Jenny answered and took off for her car. Zoë and Kyle followed her to the car. They arrived at the hospital in ten minutes. Officer Harris was waiting in the main lobby once you enter the emergency entrance.
“You must be Jennifer?” Officer Harris approached Jenny, Zoë, and Kyle. Jenny shook her head yes. “I’m afraid I have some bad news, your parents were in an accident on the interstate. You father was killed instantly, but your mother is barely making it. I’m sorry.” Jenny’s eyes filled with tears. She has just lost her father. The man that use to kiss her forehead before he left for work and when she went to bed. The man who took her to all the father-daughter dances at her school. And he was gone like that. He was gone forever.
“Where’s my mom?” Jenny asked Officer Harris. He walked her, Zoë, and Kyle up to where her mother was. Anne lay on a hospital bed with her eyes barely open. Jenny ran into the room and hugged Anne. “Mom, I love you!”
“Jenny? I love you too. Are you ok?” Anne asked running her fingers through Jenny’s sun-blonde hair. Jenny just continued to cry.
“Excuse me Jennifer, but can I talk to you outside please?” a nurse came into the room. Jenny walked back into the hallway where Officer Harris, Zoë, and Kyle were waiting. “Your mother lost so much blood at the scene of the accident she may only survive through tonight. Your mother has already written in her will that Zoë and Kyle’s parents would get custody of you. Of course, there is one way she could survive.”
“How?” Jenny asked with tears still in her eyes.
“Well, you could donate blood to her,” the nurse told her. Jenny shook her head yes. She would do anything to keep her mother alive. The nurse let Jenny go back into the room with Anne after she drew blood from her arm.
“What was that about Jenny?” Anne asked her weakly.
“The nurse said that the only way for you to survive was if I donated blood, so she already drew blood,” Jenny told her mother holding her hand.
“Jenny, I need to tell you something. You can’t donate blood,” Anne told Jenny. Anne’s eyes began filling with tears.
“Why not?” Jenny asked confused.
“Because Jenny, your adopted. I’m sorry we never told you, but we weren’t sure if we should.” Anne cried.
“But, if I can’t donate blood then you’ll…” Jenny couldn’t finish. She was too afraid to. She sat beside her mother for the rest of the day and into the night. But at 8:05 the next morning Anne died. Jenny sat crying beside her.
********************************Back at the Fedun Home******************************
“Chris, can you come in the living room for a second please?” Phil yelled for his son. Matt and Linda sat on the couch. Linda was crying.
“Hey,” Chris came into the room. “Mom? What’s wrong?”
“Chris we need to tell you something,” Phil began. “You have a little sister.” Phil came out and told him. Chris stared at him, then Linda, and finally Matt.
“What?” Chris asked.
“It’s true bro, we have a little sister,” Matt reassured him. “She’s the reason Mom always cries on your birthday.”
“You and Mary were both born on January 14,” Linda cried. “She was kidnapped before her first birthday. She turned 17 yesterday.”
“And we’re going to get Mary back Chris,” Phil told his son. “And we thought it was time you knew that you are a big brother.”
********************************Back at the Hospital***********************************
“I’m sorry about your mom Jennifer,” Officer Harris told Jenny when she came out of the hospital room to let the nurses carry away her mother’s (adoptive mother’s) body. “The nurse told me about the adoption.” Jenny was still crying. “But I have something to tell you.”
“What?” Jenny asked. Officer Harris motioned her towards a bench against the wall.
“When I took a look at the adoption papers from your file, I did some checking up. You were adopted from an illegal adoption agency that was shut down ten years ago. Two men kidnapped you and made a fake birth certificate for you and put you up for adoption for money. But I have some good news for you, we found your real parents,” Officer Harris told Jenny. She just looked at him.
*******************************Back at the Fedun Home******************************
Ring! Ring! Ring!
“Hello?” Matt answered the phone in the living room. He, Chris, Linda and Phil were still sitting in the living room. Chris still in a bit of a shock that he has a little sister.
“Yes, this is Officer Harris, from the police department,” Officer Harris began. “We found Mary.”
“Wow! Could you hold on?” Matt sat the phone down on the table. “Mom! Dad! You won’t believe this but they found Mary!”
Linda and Phil both went for the phone at the same time. Phil was able to get to it first. Chris looked at his family as they celebrated.
“Hello? Did you find Mary?” Phil spoke into the phone receiver.
“Yes Phil, she’s here at the station,” Officer Harris chuckled.
“Can we come get her and bring her home?” Phil asked him. Officer Harris told Phil yes and he told Linda and everyone packed into the car.
“I can’t believe I have a little sister!” Chris said in the car on the way to the station. He sounded angry, but kind of happy.
“I’m sorry son, but we weren’t sure if we should tell you. We didn’t want you to get scared and besides you never remembered her. We thought it was best,” Phil told him. The rest of the car ride to the station was full of Chris asking questions about Mary and everyone else getting really excited. When the Feduns arrived at the station Linda was practically running as fast as she could to Officer Harris’s office. When they turned a corner, they could see a teenage girl sitting outside his office. Linda and Phil took off running for her.

Chapter 4

“Mary! My baby!” Jenny stood up quickly about ready to run. But when she started to turn she bummed into Officer Harris, who was pushing her to go give Linda a hug. Linda’s arms began to wrap around Jenny, but Jenny just stood there uncomfortable. After Linda saw how Jenny reacted.
“I’m so glad you’re coming home with us Mary,” Linda told her smiling and crying with tears of happiness.
“My name is Jenny, Jenny James,” Jenny told Linda.
“No, it’s Mary Fedun,” Officer Harris corrected Jenny.
“Well, this is Linda, your mother,” Phil began telling Jenny. “And this is Matt, your brother. And this is Chris, your other brother.” Jenny looked from Linda to Matt to Chris. “Oh, and I’m Phil, your father.”
“I’m an only child. My father’s name is Ben James and my mother’s is Anne,” Jenny told them.
“Jenny, you will be going home with your family,” Officer Harris told her looking at the Feduns. “Mr. Fedun, how about you take Jenny, I mean Mary, back to the James home to get her things together.” Officer Harris suggested. Phil shook his head yes and he, Linda, Matt, Chris, and Jenny all packed into the car to go back to the James household. Jenny sat inbetween Chris and Matt in the back seat on the way. The car was silent.
“Mary? Where is the house?” Phil asked not knowing where to drive.
“386 Parkway Drive,” Jenny answered. “And, if you don’t mind, I’d prefer to be called Jenny.” Phil looked in his reerview mirror and smiled at his daughter.
“386 Parkway Drive, we’re here,” Phil pulled up to Jenny’s house, the house she grew up in. Everyone got out of the car and stared at the beautiful house. The alwn was bright green and the gardens were full of lovely flowers. There was a long porch with wick furniture on it and a swing.
“This is where you grew up?” Matt asked looking amazed.
“Yes,” Jenny answered and began walking towards the porch. She saw Zoe and Kyle sitting on the swing talking. When they saw her they both jumped up from the swing. Jenny ran towards them and thru herself into their arms.
“Who are they?” Kyle asked looking at the Feduns.
“My family,” Jenny answered. “Apparently I was kidnapped when I was a baby, then put up for adoption, adopted by Mom and Dad.” Jenny’s eyes filled with tears.
“Are you going home with them?” Zoe asked.
“No,” Jenny answered. “Because this is my home.” Zoe gave her another hug.
“Well, are you going to introduce us to your friends?” Linda asked. Jenny turned to look at her.
“This is Zoe and Kyle,” Jenny answered. She walked up to the door to unlock it and everyone went in.
“Mary you should get a couple of suitcases to pack your things in,” Linda told her with a smile.
“Listen Jenny, I’m sorry about Ben and Anne, really, but I’m glad they raised you. I can tell they were good parents,” Phil told Jenny. Jenny began to walk upstairs to her bedroom. “Wait, Chris, Matt, help her would you?” Matt and Chris followed orders and began up the staircase with Jenny, Kyle, and Zoe. Jenny opened the doors to a beautiful old fashioned bedroom.
“You have a nice room,” Matt told her once they were all inside.
“Thanks, my grandma lives in New Orleans and for my birthday she got all of the really old fashioned furniture that I like,” Jenny told him. She walked over to her closet door. She walked into her walkin closet. She thru out a couple of her suitcases. Jenny sat a suitcase on her bed and opened it. She began pulling down all the hangers of clothes she had and began packing them into the suitcase.
“Jen, you want me to go get boxes?” Kyle asked. Zoe was already helping with packing clothes.
“Sure, thanks Kyle.” Matt walked out of the room to go help Kyle get boxes. Chris stood there looking around not knowing what to do.
“You can sit down if you want,” Jenny told him. Chris sat down to the chair at Jenny’s dresser.
“What’s this?” Chris asked Jenny picking up a photo album that had “Through the Years” written on it’s leather-like cover.
“That’s a photo album my mom made for me. She loved scrapbooking.” Chris began flipping through the pages filled with childhood memories of his little sister.
“You know, I didn’t even know you exsisted until a couple hours ago,” Chris told Jenny.
“Same here,” Jenny mumured under her breath. “So how old are you?”
“I’m 19, Matt’s 24,” Chris answered as he continued to flip through the pages.
“Back with boxes. Where do you want us to start?” Kyle asked looking at Jenny.
“Uh, you can start by packing up my CDs I guess,” Jenny answered looking around the room. Chris looked up from the album. Jenny had a lot of CDs so he decided to go help Matt and Kyle put them into a box. About an hour of them packing up Jenny’s stuff, they had pretty much packed everything in her room.
“Well, come on Mary. I mean Jenny, sorry,” Matt began. “We should get all this downstairs.” Matt, Chris, Jenny, Kyle, and Zoe all grabbed a box or suitcase and carried it all the way downstairs.
“Jenny sweetie, which suitcases have your clothes and things like that in them?” Phil asked her. Jenny pointed to three of the suitcases. Phil, Matt, Chris, and Kyle carried all of the suitcases to the car and put them in the trunk. “We’ll get the rest of it tomorrow.” Linda was already sitting in the car. “Thank you for helping Kyle and Zoe.” Phil shook their hands and got into the car. Jenny hugged Kyle and Zoe as if never to let go. Then she got into the car with everyone else. As they drove off, Jenny looked back at the house. Even though she would be back tomorrow, she would never live in that house again. Her life was completely different now and forever. Her parents were now both dead, she was moving in with a family she didn’t know at all, and she was scared.
“We’re here,” Linda said when they pulled up in the Feduns driveway. Everyone got out of the car. Jenny looked at the house. “Welcome home Jenny.” They all started walking towards the house. When Matt unlocked the door everyone stepped inside. Chris’s dog Snuggles came running and barking at Jenny.
“Snuggles quit it!” Chris told his dog.
“It’s ok,” Jenny told him and squat down to pet her. Snuggles stopped barking and started licking Jenny’s hand. Everyone smiled, even Jenny.
“Listen Jenny, for tonight you’re going to have to sleep in here,” Linda told her.
“Ok,” Jenny answered. It was already nearly nine o’clock at night.
“Well, I have to get up early in the morning for work, so I’m going to bed,” Matt said and walked to his room. “Night.”
“I’ll go get some blankets and pillows,” Phil said and disappeared into another room. He came back and turned the couch into a bed. “Night Jenny.”
“Night Jenny,” Linda told her and they disappeared into their room down the hallway.
“Night Jenny,” Chris said and started walking towards his room.
“Wait, quick question. Where’s the bathroom?” Jenny asked looking at Chris.
“Oh, come here,” Chris hand motioned for her to follow. Jenny followed him down the hallway. “This is the bathroom, that’s Matt’s room, that’s my room, and that’s Mom and Dad’s room.” Chris told her pointing to each door on the hallway.
“Thanks,” Jenny said. Chris walked into his room and closed his door. Jenny changed into her pajamas and tried to fall asleep on the couch, but couldn’t.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
“Hello?” Brandon Hargest answered his home phone.
“Hey Brandon,” Chris said.
“Chris? Are you ok?” Brandon asked.
“Brandon who is it?” Brandon’s sister Brittany called.
“It’s Chris,” Brandon yelled back.
“Brandon you won’t believe this! I have a little sister!” Chris told him.
“What?” Brandon asked confused.
“Yeah, apparently I always have. She was kidnapped before my third birthday and I never knew about her. Yeah, and my parents started an investigation for her and they found her!” Chris spoke.
“Wow!” Brandon responded. “How old is she? What’s her name?”
“She just turned 17. Yeah, actually she and I share the same birthday, so I’m exactly two years older than her. Her name is Mary Fedun, but when she was kidnapped she was adopted so her name is actually Jenny James,” Chris answered. “Brandon I don’t know anything about having a little sister! Can you help me?”
“Well, Brittany, Libby, and Lesley are like your sisters, so it’s pretty much the same.” Brandon told him.
“Hey, let me talk to him,” Brittany snuck up on Brandon and startled him.
“Hey Brit wants to talk to you.” Brandon handed Brittany the phone.
“Now what is this I hear about you having a little sister my age?” Brittany asked. She had been standing behind Brandon the entire time listening to their conversation. “When do we get to meet her?”
“I don’t know. It’s weird now knowing that I have a little sister.” Chris told her.
“Well, how about you just try and get to know her?” Brandon asked. Brittany had put the phone on speaker.
“I’ll try,” Chris answered. “But how do you get to know your little sister?”
“I don’t know. I guess you just get to know them as they are there,” Brandon told him.
Slam!
“Chris what was that?” Brittany asked hearing a slam in his house.
“I don’t know, hold on,” Chris told her and sat the phone down on his nightstand. He walked into the living room to find Jenny. “Jenny?”
“Sorry,” Jenny told him coming out of the kitchen. “I was just trying to get a glass of water. Did I wake anyone up?”
“No. Mom, Dad, and Matt usually sleep like rocks,” Chris answered. “Hey, do you wanna watch a movie or something?”
“No thanks, I think I’m just going to go to sleep,” Jenny answered and went back to laying down on the couch. Chris walked back to his room to go back to talking to Brittany and Brandon.
“Hey, I’m back,” Chris said.
“Where’d you go?” Brandon asked.
“Oh, Jenny had slammed the cabinet in the kitchen by accident,” Chris answered.
“Jenny? Who’s Jenny?” Brittany asked confused.
“That’s his sister Brit,” Brandon looked at his sister. Brittany started turning red because she knew that was a dumb question after she said it. “Hey, I have an idea!”
“What is it?” Chris asked.
“Why don’t you bring Jenny with you to rehersals tomorrow?” Brandon suggested knowing he was a genious.
“I’ll ask her in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion,” Chris considered the idea.
“Well talk to you tomorrow,” Brittany told Chris and left the room to go to bed.
“Yeah, I’m kind of beat too, see you tomorrow,” Brandon told Chris and hung up the phone. Chris went to bed that night having discovered he was a big brother and gaining a little sister. The next morning he woke up ready to ask Jenny to go with him to rehersals.

Chapter 5

“Hey Jen…” Chris started when he walked into the living room. He didn’t see Jenny anywhere. All of the blankets and pillows had disappeared. “Hey Mom, where’s Jenny?” he asked walking into the kitchen.
“Oh, she, Dad, and Matt left early to go help Jenny get the rest of her stuff before they had to go to work,” Linda answered looking up at Chris.
“Ok. Do you think I should ask Jenny if she wants to come to rehersals with me?” Chris asked looking at Linda. Linda smiled at her son.
“Well, you don’t have to be there until two right?” Linda asked. “Take her with you, she might enjoy it.” Chris shook his head yes.
“Is it ok if I head over to help Jenny pack?”
“Sure.”
“Hey Mom, where is all of her stuff going to go?” Chris asked thinking about that.
“Well, Matt said he was going to move in to the garage apartment and Jenny will move into his old room,” Linda answered. Chris said goodbye. He drove over to the James house. When he pulled into the driveway he noticed that his dad’s car wasn’t there, neither was Matt’s. He looked at his watch. It was 9:30. They propably left half an hour ago.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Who is it?” Jenny yelled from inside.
“It’s Chris,” he shouted back. Jenny opened the door and let him in. He looked around the living room. All of the pictures in the living room had been taken down.
“You know you’re not taking all of this with you right?” Chris asked her seeing that pretty much in the house had been boxed up.
“Yeah, my grandmother is going to come up here and she’s taking all of the stuff back down to New Orleans with her. Then since my parents left everything of there’s in my possension, I’m just going to rent out the house.”
“That makes sense,” Chris told her. “Listen, I wanted to ask you something.” Jenny stopped packing and looked up at him. “Have you ever heard of the group Jump5?”
“I think so, it’s christian music right?” Jenny asked.
“Yeah, well see, is it ok if I use your computer real quick to show you?” Chris asked pointing to Jenny’s laptop on the coffee table. Jenny shook her head yes. Chris got online and went to Jump5’s website. “See, I’m in Jump5. And I was wondering if you wanted to go with me to rehersals today?”
“Sure, I guess,” Jenny answered looking at the computer screen and then back at Chris. Chris smiled at his sister. Chris helped Jenny pack for awhile and before they knew it, it was noon.
Grrrrr!
“What was that?” Jenny asked looking at Chris.
“Sorry, I’m just hungry,” Chris answered.
“Come on,” Jenny told him and stood up and started wlaking to the kitchen. Chris followed her in. “What do you want?”
“What do you have?” Chris replied.
“Mac and cheese, chicken, salad, hot dogs, pb&j. Anything sound good?” Jenny replied thinking right off the top of her head.
“Mac and cheese sounds good. Thanks,” Chris told her. Jenny started making some and Chris looked out the french doors going to the back deck.
“You have a nice house,” Chris said making conversation. He turned back around and looked at about seven boxes full of trophes. “Wow! Are all those yours?” Chris started looking at all of the trophes.
“Yeah, except one box has my parents trophes in it,” Jenny answered.
“Soccer, dance, basketball, softball, cheerleading, swimming, volleyball, gymnastics, tennis, track, spelling bees, talent shows. You did a lot of stuff!” Chris said reading different placks off of different trophes.
“Yeah, my mom was a homemaker so she could always drive me places. I LOVE being involved in stuff!” Jenny smiled. Chris laughed. “It’s ready.” Jenny poured the mac and cheese into two bowls and sat them on the table that was covered in more pictures, papers, and other things.
“What’s this?” Chris asked picking up a picture frame. “How old were you in this?” Jenny looked at the picture he was holding. It was a picture from a talent show she did when she was little.
“I was nine. I remember it because I was in New Orleans visiting my grandparents,” Jenny smiled. She and Chris sat talking for awhile, then it was around 1:25.
“Hey, I have to go to rehersals, you’re coming right?” Chris asked standing up.
“Sure, let’s go,” Jenny told him and stood up. They left the house and drove to the rehersal hall that Jump5 practiced at everyday.
“We’re here,” Chris told Jenny when they pulled into a parking lot in front of a small building. “Brandon and Brittany are already here.”
“Who?” Jenny asked looking at him to two blondes standing outside. One was a girl that looked about her age and a really cute boy with long blonde hair. They got out of the car and walked up to the two blondes.
“Hey Brit, Brandon. This is Jenny,” Chris greeted and introduced Jenny. The second Brandon saw Jenny he thought she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen, well right with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
“Hi, I’m Brittany, and this creep that is drooling is Brandon,” Brittany and Chris started laughing. Brandon quickly shot a glare at Brittany. She tried to stop laughing.
“Hi I’m Brandon,” Brandon smiled at her.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Jenny,” Jenny introduced herself. It was quite for a quick minute.
“Hey Brandon, Brit, Chris, and girl I don’t know,” Lesley came up to everyone. “I’m Lesley.”
“Hi I’m Jenny.”
“So long have you two been going out?” Lesley asked Jenny and Chris.
“No! No! Jenny is my sister Lesley!” Chris stared at her nearly screaming. Lesley turned beat red.
“Oh my! I’m soooo sorry! Sorry!” Lesley told them trying to get the color back in her face. “So, let’s go to practice. Are you staying?” Lesley asked Jenny. Brandon started thinking to himself: “Please! Please be staying! Please!”
“Yeah, if it’s ok,” Jenny answered.
“Of course it’s ok! We love having people come and watch,” Brandon hurrily told her. Brittany, Lesley, and Chris exchanged quick glances. They could all tell Brandon must really like Jenny. “After you,” Brandon told her holding open the door for her. Brittany started to walk in behind her, but Brandon walked in front of her and nearly shut the face on Brittany’s door.
“Brandon!” Lesley and Brittany wispered right behind him.
“What?” he wispered back.
“Brandon and Jenny sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G,” they sang together. Brandon glared at them.
“Shut up!” Brandon told them.
“What?” Jenny asked turning to look at him. Brandon turned pink.
“Nothing,” Brandon told her. Jenny looked at him with a weird look.
“Nice try Bran,” Brittany patted Brandon on his shoulder and started walking towards the practice room. Chris and Lesley started laughing and then they all followed Brittany into the practice room.
They practiced for about two hours just on dancing. Jenny sat on the floor watching the entire time. She enjoyed watching the practice. It was like she had her own private concert. Then they decided to take a break. They all stepped outside since even though it was January it was actually pretty nice outside.
“What school do you go to?” Brandon asked as they all stood outside talking.
“Grant Prep Academy,” Jenny answered.
“Whoa! You go to a prep school?” Brittany asked.
“Yeah, my dad was a teacher there,” Jenny told them.
“What types of things are you into?” Lesley asked her.
“Could you be more specific?” Jenny replied.
“What type of sports, music, movies, games are you into?” Lesley told her.
“Well, I really like sports, soccer, softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, track, dance, cheerleading, swimming, gymnastics. As for music, pretty much anything. I like Maroon 5, Simple Plan, Linkin Park, Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Usher…anything,” Jenny told them.
“What about movies and games?” Lesley asked.
“Comdies, action, adventure, chick-flicks, horror, I just like movies period. Then games, Sims 2, Life, Monopoly, Twister, Harry Potter, Who Wants to be a Millionair, Pictionary,” Jenny named things she enjoyed.
“Dang!” Brittany replied. Jenny just smiled.
Honk! Honk! Honk!
“Jenny!” a few people getting into a jeep in the building next to the rehersal hall. Everyone looked over to them. Jenny reconized them as Nick, Carter, and Wendy, some friends from school.
“Do you know them?” Chris asked Jenny.
“Yeah, they’re friends from school,” Jenny answered. “I’ll be right back.” Jenny ran over to talk to Nick, Carter, and Wendy.
“Hey Jen, sorry about you parents,” Wendy told her and gave Jenny a hug. “How are you doing?”
“Thanks, ok, I guess,” Jenny smiled.
“Well, sorry to cut it short but we have to go pick up my sisters from piano lessons and then get to work,” Nick told her and gave Jenny a quick hug.
“Bye Jenny,” Carter and Wendy told her as they got into the jeep. Jenny waved to them as they drove off and then went back to Chris, Lesley, Brittany, and Brandon.
“Well, time to go back in,” Lesley said when she looked down at her watch. Everyone walked back inside the building. Practice was over around five and everyone left. Chris took Jenny back to the James home to pick up her car and she followed him home.

Chapter 6

“Jenny, your grandmother called,” Phil told her as they all sat at dinner.
“Which one?” Jenny asked. Phil looked at her odd.
“What do you mean?” he replied.
“Well I guess I have like six grandmothers now,” Jenny answered.
“How?” Matt asked her.
“Well, my mom’s mom, my dad’s mom, then both of those grandmothers still have their mothers. So, my great-grandmothers. Then your mom and Linda, Mom’s, mom,” Jenny replied. Everyone laughed.
“The one from New Orleans,” Phil chuckled. “She said she came to settle the stuff with the house and to see you. She was hoping to see you tomorrow, but I told her she could come over tonight.”
“Ok, thank you,” Jenny told him and continued eating her spaghetti. Later that night around 6:30, there was a knock at the door.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Hello, I’m LeAnn Harvey,” the woman said when Matt answered the front door. “Jennifer’s grandmother. And this is Nigel Harvey, her uncle,” she introduced the man in his early to mid thirties standing next ot her.
“Oh, please come in. I’ll go get Jenny,” Matt moved to let them in. He walked to his old bedroom because they had already started moving Jenny’s stuff in there. He found Chris in there with her. “Jen, your grandmother and uncle are here.”
“YES!” Jenny squeled and ran out of the room and into the living room. “Grandma! Uncle Nigel!” she ran to give them both giant hugs.
“There’s my granddaughter!” LeAnn said and hugged Jenny.
“And my favorite niece!” Nigel kissed Jenny on her forehead. Jenny had to be Nigel’s favorite niece, because he was her only niece.
“You must be Mrs. Harvey, I’m Linda Fedun,” Linda greeed when she walked into the room. By now LeAnn, Nigel, Jenny, Matt, Linda, Chris, and Phil were all in the living room.
“Hello, this is my son Nigel, Anne’s brother,” LeAnn greeted her. Linda, Phil, LeAnn, and Nigel all sat and talked about the situation with Jenny. They agreed Jenny could still see her adoptive family sometimes and they all settled the things with the house. Two days later, LeAnn nad Nigel left after the funeral and they had loaded up a Uhaul truck with all of the things LeAnn was taking to New Orleans with her. Jenny was really happy to have seen her grandmother and uncle. Now her life with the Fedun’s was really going to start.

Chapter 7

“Jenny, are you up yet?” Linda knocked on Jenny’s bedroom door on Sunday morning. “Jenny, we have to get ready for church.” It was already 9:30 and church started at 11:00. “Jenny?” Linda opened Jenny’s bedroom door, but Jenny wasn’t in there. Her bed was made, church clothes were hanging on the closet door, but there was Jenny.
“Morning Mom,” Chris said as he walked past Jenny’s door.
“Chris, do you know where Jenny is?” Linda asked him. He shook his head no.
“Hey Mom, have you seen Snuggles?” Chris asked. Linda shook her head no. Chris and Linda walked into the kitchen. Phil and Matt were sitting eating breakfast.
“Have either of you seen Jenny this morning?” Linda asked.
“Or Snuggles?” Chris added.
“Yeah, Snuggles had to go out, so I asked Jenny to take her for a walk. You could propably still catch her,” Phil answered. “Even though Snuggles is a certain
“Oh, ok. I’ll go try to catch her and go for a walk too,” Chris replied and ran out of the house. Jenny was only at the corner when he got outside. “Jenny! Wait up!” She turned around and waited for him. “Hey.”
“Hi,” Jenny replied.
“Are you ok?” Chris gave her a weird look.
“I’m fine. Why?” Jenny replied looking back at him.
“You just sound…I don’t know…weird,” Chris looked at her. They started walking together around the block in silence for a couple minutes. “Oh, Brittany and Lesley asked me to ask you if you wanted to go to the mall with them later today after church? Brandon and I are going to go too, but we’ll be at the arcade.”
“Well, I was planning on hang out with Zoe,” Jenny replied. “Maybe another time.”
“Ok, no problem,” Chris responded. “You want to play 20 questions?”
“I guess,” Jenny replied.
“I know it may sound weird, but I didn’t know I had a sister, so I want to get to know you,” Chris explained. Jenny smiled. “Ok, what is your favorite color, store, movie, show, and band?”
“Uh, let’s see, blue, Aeropostal or Old Navy, Raise Your Voice, Summerland, and Simple Plan,” Jenny answered. “And you?”
“Blue, Abocromie & Finch, Dumb and Dumber, Full House, and Maroon 5 or Black Eyed Peas,” Chris answered smiling. “Who is your favorite singer, rapper, actor, and actress?”
“Jessica Simpson or Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Mel Gibson, and Julia Roberts,” Jenny answered. “What about you?”
“Beyonce, Eminem, Jim Carrey, and Jessica Alba,” Chris answered. “How many questions do I have left?”
“11,” Jenny answered.
“Who do you have a celeberity crush on? Do you have a boyfriend, if so who? Who is your best friend?” Chris asked.
“Jesse McCartney, no, and Zoe,” Jenny answered him.
“Beyonce, I don’t have a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, and Brandon, Brittany, Lesley, and Libby are all my best friends,” Chris told her. “6 questions left. What’s your favorite subject? What do you want to be when you’re older? What college do you want to go to? What is your favorite food? What is your least favorite food? And where do you like to go on vacation?” Chris asked.
“English and Chorus, either a teacher or a docter, University of Tennessee, Chicken Nuggets, Pot Pies of any kind, and Hawaii,” Jenny told him.
“English, performer, obivusly, University of Tennessee, Rice, Egg Rolls, and Panama Beach,” Chris told her. They finished the game just in time to go change for church. After church they came back home, had lunch, and were getting ready ready to go out with friends.

Chapter 8

Honk! Honk! Honk! Jenny looked out the front window in the living room.
“Hey, Chris, your friends are here, so is Zoe,” Jenny shouted. Chris came out and they both walked out onto the porch. They started walking towards Lesley’s car. Brittany and Brandon were both in the back seat.
“I thought you weren’t coming with us? Where’s Zoe?” Chris asked her when he started opening the door.
“I’m not, Zo turned the corner up there, she must have gotten lost or something. Here she comes, bye,” Jenny told him and started walking out to the street. They all watched as Zoe and Jenny drove off. Brandon looked a little disappointed.
“What’s wrong Bran?” Brittany asked him looking worried at his expression.
“Nothing Brit,” Brandon replied looking back at Zoe’s car turning the corner.
“You like her don’t you?” Lesley asked him looking in the reer view mirror as she pulled out of the driveway.
“How’d you…Brittany Lynne Hargest! Were you listening to me on the phone when I was talking to David?” Brandon turned and looked at her.
“No! It’s obvious that you like Jenny. At rehersals you opened the door for her, couldn’t stop staring at her when you met her. It’s obvious!” Brittany retorted at him. Lesley and Chris agreed.
“Well, you should be happy to know that when I asked her if she had a boyfriend when we were playing 20 questions, she said no. So, you can try asking her out,” Chris boosted Brandon’s happiness. Brandon smiled. They all drove off to the mall. The boys went to the arcade and the girls went shopping. When Brandon and Chris were walking to the arcade, they saw something. They saw Jenny and Zoe going into Old Navy. Chris and Brandon walked over to where the girls were.
“I thought you weren’t coming to the mall,” Chris snuck up behind her.
“No, I said I was going to hang out with Zoe, I didn’t say where,” Jenny laughed. Chris laughed too.
“Oh, by the way Jenny, Brandon has something he wants to…” Chris started.
“Chris! Shut up!” Brandon punched Chris in the arm.
“That hurt,” Chris replied rubbing his arm. Brandon has a nervous look on his face and Chris was trying to not laugh. Jenny just looked at them as if they were crazy.
“Ok,” Jenny said and turned around with Zoe to continue shopping.
“Wait!” Brandon told her. Jenny turned back around.
“What?” she replied waiting for him to say something. Brandon looked at her with a blank stare, he didn’t know what to say.
“Uh…um..uh…I…uh…um…” Brandon stuttered. He had never had problems talking to girls, just girls he liked. And he really liked Jenny! “Chris let’s go!” Brandon pulled Chris by his jacket and they left. Zoe and Jenny looked at each other.
“What in the world?” Zoe asked laughing.
“Don’t ask me!” Jenny replied and continued looking at a rack of clothes.
“You know what I think Jen?” Zoe asked smiling at Jenny.
“No, what Zo?” Jenny asked.
“Brandon likes you!” Zoe told her. Jenny looked at her. “What?”
“Are you crazy? I don’t even know the guy, he doesn’t know me, and you don’t know him!” Jenny replied.
“So what? Jessica Simpson didn’t know Nick Lachey when they first met! It was love at first sight! And look how happy they are!” Zoe told her giving Jenny a very good explaination. “You don’t think he’s cute?”
“Yeah he’s cute, but that doesn’t mean he likes me!” Jenny gave her a stern look.
“Jessica thought Nick was cute,” Zoe murmured, but made it loud enough for Jenny to hear. When Chris and Brandon were walking back to the arcade, they spotted Brittany and Lesley walking towards them.
“Hey,” Brittany greeted them with about ten bags in her hands. They looked at Lesley, who had double the amount of Brittany.
“You girls are crazy!” Brandon told them looking at the bags.
“Yeah, so they’re crazy when it comes to shopping, but you’re crazy when it comes to my sister!” Chris laughed at Brandon. Lesley and Brittany started making kissy faces at Brandon.
“Quit it!” Brandon pleaded with them.
“What? Why don’t you just ask her out?” Brittany asked him. “What’s the worst she can say?”
“NO! She could say no!” Brandon yelled at his sister.
“Calm down Brandon!” Lesley told him.
“Sorry, it’s just…I really like her! I want to get to know her and I don’t know,” Brandon sighed as he looked back into Old Navy. She was having a lot of fun hanging out with Zoe.
“You had the chance to ask her out Brandon! Why didn’t you?” Chris asked him.
“Because! I have no problem talking to girls, just talking to girls I like!” Brandon answered. “Quick! Let’s get out of here, they’re coming out!” Brandon started to walk away, but everyone else just stood there. “Come on!” Lesley, Brittany, and Chris still stood there laughing at him.
“Sorry bro, but it’s kind of adorable that you are crazy over this girl you just met!” Brittany told him.
“Chris, you’re her brother, can’t you talk to her for me?” Brandon asked him.
“I gave you the perfect oppurtunity to ask her out and you didn’t, if you want to go on a date with her, you ask her,” Chris answered him. Brandon looked at Jenny walking farther and farther away.
“Jenny!” Brandon shouted after her. She didn’t hear him, but Zoe did and tapped Jenny on the shoulder.
“What is it Zo?” Jenny asked. Zoe pointed o Brandon walking towards them.
“I’m going to go…do something. Bye!” Zoe told her and took off leaving Jenny and Brandon alone, kind of, they were in a public mall.
“Hey Jenny,” Brandon started.
“Hi Brandon,” Jenny said to him.
“Listen, I’m very good at this, actually I stink at this, but…I was wondering if you were doing anything Friday night?” Brandon asked her.
“Nothing planned,” Jenny replied.
“Well, would you like to go out on a date with me?” Brandon was finally able to get out. Jenny didn’t answer right away.
“Uh…Brandon…you don’t anything about me. And I’m not a big fan of going out with guys I don’t know or guys who don’t know me,” Jenny replied. Brandon was disappointed. “But…I think I’ll make an exception,” Jenny smiled at him and Brandon’s face lit up.
“Great! I mean I’ll…uh…pick you up at 7 then,” Brandon told her. Jenny smiled. “Well, talk to you later. Bye.”
“Bye,” Jenny turned to go find Zoe and Brandon went back to Chris, Brittany, and Lesley smiling.
“Well?” Lesley asked.
“She said yes!” Brandon told them really excited.

Chapter 9

Brandon was really excited when Friday came. He was asking Brittany for help because he was actually nervous even though he had been on dates before.
“Will you calm down Brandon?” Brittany asked.
“Brit, I want it to be perfect! I want to be able to go on another date with her and I’m just nervous!” Brandon told his sister.
“Sorry. So, where are you taking Jenny?” Brittany asked. Brandon’s mouth dropped.
“Oh my gosh! I didn’t even think about that!” Brandon yelled. Brittany looked at him as if she was hearing things. Brandon was never one to forget things. “What am I going to do?”
“Calm down! What about dinner and a movie?” Brittany suggested. “Or there’s a fottball game tonight?”
“I’ll go with dinner and a movie,” Brandon told her. Brandon finished getting ready.
************************************Back at the Feduns*******************
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Come in,” Chris said from his computer chair in his room.
“Hey Chris,” Jenny walked in. She was wearing a pair of jeans with a light blue long-sleeve shirt-style sweater.
“Hey Jen, you look pretty,” Chris complimented her. “What’s up?”
“Thanks, I wanted to ask you a question,” Jenny answered.
“Sure, what?” Chris asked turning to look at her.
“What’s Brandon like? Like, is he a party kind of guy or more of a mellow type of guy?” Jenny asked Chris.
“Well, he’s a nice guy. He’s not out-of-control wild or anything, if that’s what you meant by party-guy,” Chris told her. “Why?”
“Just wondering,” Jenny answered. “Thanks,” Jenny told him and stood to leave.
“Wait a minute, sit back down,” Chris told her. “Are you nervous?”
“Actually, yeah,” Jenny admitted. Chris smiled at her. “It’s just all the guys I’ve ever been on a date with I know more about them from school or something, and I don’t know Brandon at all!” Jenny told Chris.
“You’ll be fine,” Chris told her laughing. “He’s going to be here in 30 minutes,” Chris told her turning to look at the clock on the computer. Chris went back to instant messenging friends online and Jenny went back to her room and listened to the radio.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Hi Brandon,” Linda answered the door letting him in. “Chris, Brandon is here,” Linda shouted for her son, not knowing that Brandon was there for Jenny, not Chris.
“Actually Mrs. Fedun, I’m here for Jenny,” Brandon told her.
“Jenny?” Linda asked confused. “Why Jenny?” Chris walked in just then.
“Mom, he and Jenny are going out on a date,” Chris answered for Brandon.
“Oh, ok,” Linda asked confused.
“Hey Brandon,” Phil walked into the room. “I hope you and Jenny have fun tonight.”
“You knew about this?” Linda asked.
“Yeah, Jenny asked me if she could go,” Phil told her. Linda seemed surprised, first, that Brandon and Jenny were going on a date, and that, Jenny didn’t ask her, but Phil. Jenny walked in right then.
“Hey,” she said when she walked in. “Uh, what time do I need to be home?” They hadn’t actually given her a curfew, because well she hadn’t gone anywhere at night.
“Well, on weekends Matt and Chris had to be home by midnight, so same for you,” Linda answered.
“Ok, bye,” Jenny told them and she and Brandon walked out to the car that Brandon had borrowed from his dad.
“You look really pretty,” Brandon told her. Jenny smiled at him.
“Thanks, so where are we going?” Jenny asked him as he opened the door for her.
“Well, I was thinking dinner and a movie,” Brandon answered. He shut the door and then got in the driver’s seat. “How does that sound?”
“Great,” Jenny said and Brandon pulled out of the driveway. Brandon was really excited that he was on a date with Jenny! Brandon took Jenny to a little restaurant that served Italian. After they ate, Brandon took Jenny to go see a movie. The movie let out around 10:30, so they still had an hour and a half. They just decided to walk around the mall for a bit.
“I’m really glad that you said yes,” Brandon told Jenny. Jenny started to blush.
“So am I,” Jenny responded.
“That’s good!” Brandon smiled at her. They left the mall around 11:40. Brandon drove Jenny home and walked her to the door. “I had a lot of fun tonight,” Brandon said not knowing what else to say. He didn’t know whether to kiss Jenny or not. It was only the first date, but he really wanted to.
“Yeah, I had a lot of fun too,” Jenny replied.
“Jenny, is it ok…I mean is it…would you mind if I…” Brandon was stuttering again! He stopped to look at Jenny and then chuckled at how stupid he thought he sounded. “I must sound really dumb right?”
“No, just nervous,” Jenny laughed.
“Is it ok if I kiss you?” Brandon finally got out.
“Yes, it is,” Jenny answered. Brandon leaned in and kissed Jenny.
“Good night,” Brandon smiled at her.
“Good night,” Jenny told him and walked inside. Brandon walked back to his dad’s car. It had offically been the best night of his life!

Chapter 10

“Good morning sleeping beauty,” Chris said to Jenny as he shook her waking her up at noon. “Have fun last night?”
“Morning Chris,” Jenny opened her eyes. “Yeah, Brandon’s a really cool guy. I’m really glad I said yes!” Jenny and Chris started laughing.
“Here,” Chris said handing Jenny the phone.
“What’s this for?” Jenny asked confused.
“Brandon has been calling for you since like nine this morning!” Chris told her laughing. “Here’s his number.” Chris handed Jenny a small piece of paper with a phone number on it.
“Thanks,” Jenny took the slip of paper.
“Listen, I have rehersals again today, Matt and Dad have to work, and Mom is going to some sort of book club thing or something, you going to be ok alone?” Chris asked.
“Chris, I’m seventeen, not seven. I know 911 and the stop-drop-and-roll, I’m good,” Jenny laughed. “Besides, I have to go to soccer practice and softball practice.”
“Ok, well I have to go or I’m going to be late,” Chris told her and left for rehersals.
“531-0789,” Jenny murmured to herself as she dialed Brandon’s phone number.
“Hello,” Brittany answered the phone.
“Hi Brittany, it’s Jenny,” Jenny replied.
“Oh, hi. Hold on,” Brittany told Jenny. “Hey Brandon! Your girlfriend is on the phone,” Brittany shouted to make sure Jenny heard it just to embarress Brandon.
“Brittany Lynne Hargest! Shut up!” Brandon told his sister as he grabbed the phone form her. Brandon went to his room to talk in private, but Brittany went to her room and picked up the other phone. “Hi Jenny. Sorry about my sister.”
“That’s ok. Chris told me you called,” Jenny told him trying to sound as casual as she could.
“I was just wondering if you wanted to go out again next Friday night?” Brandon asked her.
“I can’t, I have a game, sorry,” Jenny told him. “I want to, but I’ve already missed a few practices and games. Sorry.”
“It’s ok, maybe another time,” Brandon told her saddened. “Well I got to go to practice, bye.” Brandon hung up and he and Brittany left for practice. Jenny started getting ready for soccer and softball.
*******************************At Jump5 Rehersals*************************
“Hey Bran, hey Brit,” Lesley and Chris greeted them when they walked into the rehersal hall.
“Hi,” Brittany replied.
“What’s wrong with you Brandon?” Lesley asked him looking at him. He seemed kind of sad.
“Nothing,” Brandon replied.
“He’s upset because Jenny said she couldn’t go out on a second date with him next Friday because she has a game,” Brittany told everyone. Brandon looked up at her. “What?”
“You were listening in on my conversation?” Brandon shouted at her.
“Yeah, I was bored,” Brittany replied not even scared that Brandon was close enough to punch her.
“Chris, did she ever say anything to you about not liking going out with me last night?” Brandon asked paranoide.
“I asked her this morning, she said she really enjoyed going out with you. Stop worrying so much Bran,” Chris told him. They all went inside to start practicing.
*********************************At Jenny’s Soccer practice*****************
“Welcome back Jen,” Coach Kelly said when she saw Jenny running towards her. “I’m sorry about your parents. How are you doing?”
“Gald to be back, and I’m doing fine,” Jenny answered.
“Hey Jenny,” Vanessa yelled when she saw Jenny running towards the field. All the girls on the team starting yelling for seeing that Jenny was back!
“Hey!” Jenny yelled back.
“Hey Jen,” Zoe yelled to her. Jenny ran over to have practice drills with the girls on the team. “How was the date last night?” Zoe asked smiling at her.
“It was a lot of fun,” Jenny replied. Jenny smiled at Zoe to give her the hint that she really liked it! Zoe started smiling and laughing. Soccer practice ended around 2:00 and Jenny had to get over to softball with Zoe.
**********************************At Jenny’s Softball practice***************
“Hey Zo, where is everyone?” Jenny looked at the empty field. “Hey, there’s Casey, let’s go see what’s going on.” Jenny parked and she and Zoe walked over to team-mate Casey.
“Hey Jen, Zo,” Casey greeted them.
“Hi, where’s the team?” Zoe asked her.
“Practice was canceled because Coach Brian had a family emergency, at least that’s what it says on the paper in his office window,” Casey told them pointing to the window next to them.
“The rest of the team already left? How come you didn’t leave?” Jenny asked her.
“No, I called the rest of the team and told them. I tried calling you two, but nobody answered,” Casey told them. “And I couldn’t get a hold of my mom or brother to come pick me up.”
“Come on, I’ll give you a ride home,” Jenny offered her. After Jenny dropped Casey and Zoe off at their houses, she went back home. But Jenny realized something. She didn’t have a key to the house and nobody was home yet. She decided to go to her school to pick up the work she missed. Even though it was Saturday, the teachers were there today for some meeting.
**********************************At Grant Prep Academy******************
Jenny parrked in the school parking lot and walked in the front door. She went to the library to find all the teachers in the entire school. They were just finishing up their meeting.
“Jenny, I’m so happy to see you. How are you doing?” Mrs. Caldwell, Jenny’s science teacher, asked when she saw Jenny walk in.
“Fine, thanks Mrs. Caldwell,” Jenny responded.
“What are you doing her on a Saturday?” Mrs. Caldwell asked her.
“Well, I came to get the work I missed,” Jenny answered.
“Of course,” Mrs. Caldwell responded. “The rest of the teachers and I have already put together a packet for you, it’s in the office.” Mrs. Caldwell walked Jenny to the office to get her packet. After Jenny got her school work she started to head home. When she got back home, there was still nobody home. She decided to go over to Chris’s rehersal.
************************************At Jump5 Rehersals********************
“What time is it?” Chris asked during their break and everyone was sitting on the floor.
“It’s 2:45,” Brittany answered looking at her watch.
“Oh no!” Chris said.
“What?” Brandon asked looking at him.
“Jenny! I forgot, she doesn’t have a key to get back in the house,” Chris told them.
“You can try running back home to see if she’s home and let her in,” Lesley suggested.
“I’ll be right back,” Chris told them and got up to leave. When he got outside and to his car he saw Jenny pulling into the parking lot. “Hey Jen.” Jenny got out of her car after she parked.
“Hi,” she replied walking towards him. “Is practice already over?”
“No, I was just coming to see if you were home yet and let you in,” Chris told her. Chris pulled his key chain back out and pulled off the house key. “Here,” Chris handed Jenny the house key. “Mom will propably be back by the time I get home so you can go ahead and use the key.”
“Thanks, do you want me to go get a copy made first?” Jenny asked him.
“Sure, if you want a key,” Chris laughed. “You don’t have to go straight home, you can stay for practice again. I know Brandon would want you to,” Chris smiled at her. Jenny started to blush.
“That’s ok, I have school work I have to work on so, I want to finish it by Monday,” Jenny told him. She turned to leave and Chris walked back inside.
“That was quick!” Brittany said when she saw Chris come back in.
“Well Jenny was pulling into the parking lot when I got to my car. I just went ahead and gave her my key. She’s going to go get a copy made I think,” Chris told them and sat back down on the floor.
“Oh,” Brittany responded understanding.
“Jenny was here? I missed Jenny!” Brandon started shouting right in Lesley’s ear.
“That hurt,” Lesley said rubbing her ear. Everyone started laughing. Jump5 went ahead and finished practicing, while Jenny went and got a key made and went home.

Chapter 11

“Since you been gone, I can’t breathe for the first time,” Jenny mumured to herself as she did her missed school work and listened to the radio.
“There’s my girl,” Phil said as he walked into the opened door to Jenny’s room.
“Hi,” Jenny said looking up from her books.
“What are you doing?” Phil asked not use to seeing school books on a Saturday night. “I don’t think Matt or Chris ever brought school work home on the weekends.”
“Well since I missed like a week of school, I’m trying to make it all up by Monday,” Jenny answered. Phil pulled a chair up to Jenny’s bed that was taken over with school stuff.
“I forgot that you go to Grant, Chris told me, I just didn’t remember,” Phil said when he saw a binder with Grant Prep Academy written on the cover.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to ask you. Will I still be able to go to Grant?” Jenny asked Phil.
“Linda and I have never had a kid in private school, but since you already went there, we don’t want to split you away from your friends, so yes you can still go to Grant,” Phil answered.
“Thanks,” Jenny said. “Could you sign this please? The school gave out report cards when I was gone,” Jenny asked him and handed Phil her report card.
“Straight A’s, great job Jenny!” Phil saw when he read the paper. Phil picked up a pen and signed the report card. “That’s really great Jenny!”
“That was the deal,” Jenny told him.
“What deal?” Phil asked unknowingly.
“My parents said that if I got straight A’s, then I could do as many activities as I wanted to. Any B’s, even if it was on a interim report, only one activity,” Jenny answered him. “Plus, since my dad was a teacher, there was no excuse for me to get anything below an A.”
“I like their method of thinking,” Phil laughed. “Are you hungry? Matt was going out with friends after work and Linda was going to her friend’s daughter’s bacholette party and won’t be back until late.”
“Sure, I guess. What about Chris?” Jenny asked.
“He should be home in a couple minutes, then we’ll all go out for dinner. How’s that sound?” Phil answered.
“Good,” Jenny replied.
“Ok, well I’ll let you get back to your work,” Phil told her and left the room. Jenny got back to work and then about 15 minutes later, Phil called for her.
“Jenny let’s go,” Phil shouted form the living room. Jenny grabbed her shoes and coat. When she walked into the living room Chris and Phil were standing ready to go. They all got in Phil’s car and left.
“Dad where are we going?” Chris asked.
“Good question. Where do you all feel like going?” Phil answered.
“Applebees sounds good,” Chris answered. “What do you feel like Jen?”
“Applebees! I love Applebees!” Jenny answered with excitement. Chris and Phil laughed.
“Applebees it is then,” Phil said. The pulled into the Applebees parking lot. “They’re not as packed as I thought they would be,” Phil told Chris and Jenny looking at his watch. It was 6:30 on a Saturday and there weren’t many cars in the parking lot.
“Jenny! Jenny!” a voice shouted. Chris, Phil, and Jenny all turned to look. Jenny knew who it was. It was Jessica from school. Jessica started running towards them.
“Hey Jess,” Jenny said when Jessica finally got to them.
“Hey Jen,” Jessica said and looked at Chris and Phil. “Hi, I’m Jessica Anderson. I go to school with Jenny,” Jessica shook hands with Chris and Phil.
“Nice to meet you Jessica, I’m Phil, Jenny’s father. And this is her brother Chris,” Phil said to her. Jessica gave Jenny a funny look.
“It’s a long story,” Jenny laughed.
“As long as you’re not moving far far away, I’m good,” Jessica told her. Everyone laughed. “Oh, make sure to check your email later so I can give you information on Danica and Greg’s surprise birthday. It was nice to meet you. Bye,” Jessica said and took off running back to her mother’s car.
“She’s very perky isn’t she?” Chris asked Jenny smiling.
“Jess has always been very energetic,” Jenny replied.
“She’s a nice girl, let’s go eat,” Phil told them and ushered them inside. Since Applebees wasn’t too busy, they were seated right away. They ordered their food and sat talking.
“Who are Danica and Greg?” Phil asked going back to when Jessica was talking to them.
“Danica and Greg Michaels, they’re my friends from school and they’re twins,” Jenny answered.
“Oh, and Jessica is throwing them a surprise party?” Phil asked.
“Yeah. Greg is her boyfriend and Danica is like her best friend,” Jenny smiled. Phil let out a little laugh. Their food came and when they were finished eating, they went home.
“Listen, I’m going to my room and go to sleep, I’m tried,” Phil told Chris and Jenny.
“Ok, night Dad,” Chris said.
“Good night Dad,” Jenny said. Phil walked to his room and went to sleep. Jenny started to walk towards her room.
“Jen, you want to watch a movie or something,” Chris asked picking up the remote.
“Sure, let me just change into my pajamas real quick,” Jenny answered and walked towards her room.
“Good idea, I’ll change into my pajamas too,” Chris said. They both went to their rooms and came back into the living room.
“What are we going to watch?” Jenny asked sitting on the couch.
“Well, come pick a movie,” Chris said as he sat on the floor opening the cabinet with movies in it. Jenny got up and took a seat on the floor next to him and started reading the titles on the cases.
“What about this?” Jenny said pulling out a dvd.
“50 First Dates, good choice,” Chris said and put the dvd in. Jenny and Chris sat on the couch watching the movie when Matt came in.
“Hello,” Matt said as he locked the door and took off his shoes.
“Hey Matt,” Chris said as he watched the movie.
“Hey,” Jenny added.
“50 First Dates, hey I’ll be right back and watch it with you two,” Matt told them and walked off to his room. He came back in his pajamas and laid out on the other couch. Jenny, Chris, and Matt watched the movie together and when 50 First Dates was over they put in Big Fat Liar, but they all fell asleep before the movie was over. When Linda came home and saw all her children sleeping, she felt like crying. It was one of those weird “Mother Moments” that no one really understands, except mothers.
