G'day all
I finally received my anxiously awaited plans for the SportzMaster 19 today !! And it didn't take me long to crack the tube open to have a look.
Wow, the drawings are incredible. So much detail has been put on paper, every thing from the jig to the final fit out, plus a comprehensive builders manual.
I am so glad that I changed my mind not to build another boat from an American designer, especially after finding out how difficult it would be to register the boat in Australia.
Anyway the weekend is here and I'm getting stuck into building the jig. I've decided not to build the jig on a raised cradle, but I have chosen to increase the height of the temporary frames by 200mm to get a comfortable working height.
It wasn't easy getting the jig level, I have a 55mm fall built into the garage floor so I can hose it out. Lucky for me my brother is a builder and has a rotating laser level which made the job a lot easer, with accuracy of 1mm over 100 meters what more could I want..
As you can see from the pictures the jig is ready to take the temporary frames.
But that's another story, stay tuned.
regards
Con

Welcome all.
I've been quite busy, This week marking and cutting out temporary frames for the SportzMaster19.
The first job of transferring the full size patterns to the MDF is quite a job on its own, But I have come up with a method of making the job so easy.
First get yourself a dressmakers tool and a large sheet of carbon paper. ( I got mine from Spotlight store )
1/ Lay your sheet of timber on a bench or floor then place the full size patterns on top of timber.
2/ Line up the patterns on the timber accurately.
3/ Slip the sheet of carbon paper between the timber and the patterns.
4/ Then scroll the dressmakers tool over the top of the pattern line.
Below are two pictures showing the marking out and the end result.
Here Is a picture of the temporary frames 1 to 6, Stay tuned I will be standing the frames on the jig this weekend.
regards Con

Hey Con, great to see you are off to a cracking start, I knew you would not be dissapointed with the plans or design. The plans are fantastic hey!
Of course I have a huge interest in this build because I have the plans for this boat as well, as you know. I am about 65% through my current build and I am keen to be where you are...so I'll be watching. make sure you send plenty of photos now.
All the best regards Steve. AKA, glassark |

G'day Everyone
I haven't had a chance to do much over the weekend, With relatives visiting from Melbourne and Sydney. I had to stop to be a good host.
But I have put up temporary frames 7 to 12 up on the jig, The picture shows the shape starting to form.
best regards
Con

G'Day All
Between relatives and Cyclones, I haven't had a chance to do anything to the boat until now.
Well the rest of the temporary frames are up, so now you can see the overall shape of the boat.
My paulownia timber has arrived, so its time to scarf the strips to the length of the boat.
I sat down for a half hour to think the best way to make the 8 to 1 ratio length scarf with the tools I have at home and came up with this simple jig to clamp onto my drop saw to create this perfect scarf, Now to cut the rest and glue them up and start planking.
Regards
Con

G' Day Mark
I finally got the camera back today and tried to use it and guess what. It doesn't work, $600.00 worth of crap so I took it back and argued that its only 6 months old and I should not have this much trouble and I want a new one. No deal, so its to get it repaired again.
But I did get my memory stick back with a few pictures I took last week.
As you can see in the pictures the strip planks are going on quite well and the shape is starting to form.
Using 2 different size planks 30 x 12 and 42 x 12, I have a choice of which plank can take the shape with out stressing out the plank to much.
Once you find the position for the master plank, it all falls into place and it doesn't too long to get quite a few on.
One more thing on marks request, I have used 12 mm plywood for the sheer line and chine, so when I get the camera back I'll show that in more depth.
regards
Con
