New Forum?

Obviously there is little you can do without admin rights. The forum has far too many categories, duplication of rules on top of rules, and an excess of obsolete material and folders. You need to start over and work with the simple KISS principle which is, Keep It Simple Stupid. That is not intended as a derogatory term.

I am a bit hesitant but am considering an offer of a phpbb board on my sub domain. My offspring Jeff is a web developer of considerable acclaim. Jeff had 5 servers in San Jose, but the host went out of business and he moved his servers to Santa Clara which was much more expensive. He since has moved to virtual server space which he can change as needed at a prorated cost. Overall it's more economical and he no longer has hardware concerns.

He allows me web space without charge and I use next to nothing bandwidth. As an example, here is an undeveloped forum that I have: http://laststand.unicusconcepts.com/forums

I have no interest in War Hammer. I just like the colors of the theme. If you search phpbb themes, there are many available. If there is interest, I could download the latest phpbb build and drop it in an AOD folder within my sub domain. The best part of it, there would be no advertising, however I would be the administrator granting the next up rights to those in charge. That is the best I can do and if that is not acceptable, then there is nothing more I can do. Even at that, I can't promise anything as it's been ten years since I've done at best, amateur web work and I should run it past Jeff first. If there is no interest, I will delete this post and you are on your own. Either way, no offense taken. If the guild can come up with something more acceptable, feel free.

Erinos I would love nothing better than a new forum that is easier to use and is better to look at.

A fresh start is sometimes the best option.

You are a long standing member of AoD and I am sure you can do us proud.

How will we go about the transfer of data, from this site to the new one and ensure that only data that is needed transfered??

If you require mod access to this forum for a time it can be arranged as I have been granted global moderator status by DJ the original owner.

That is something that I am not sure about, so I can't make any promises that we could move things over due to my lack of expertise. I'm guessing that you will want to simplify and weed out a lot of the excesses. I'm thinking that if I can drop a new forum in a new directory, I can make you admin by signing in with your handle and a password that I deliver to you privately and you change the password for security purposes. Again, I have to run this past Jeff. If he is not up with this, we will have to abandon the idea. The directory containing the forum be would protected from access so I currently don't see a problem. The bandwidth usage would be very low I believe. I have to get moving, as I'm late and have a 170 mile round trip to complete today. Tonight I'll see what I can get started on my end.

This idea is great, however I am just start to familiar myself with everything in this forum, now I have to start all over again learning another forum:P

Anyway, we do need something thats new and fresh for the guild in order to bring a new atmosphere to all guild members, and attract more players to join!

Apparently there are one or more of the elements in the above link that is not available on the server, or I'm doing something wrong. phpBB3 is the latest version, newer than the unused one that I have. I use Filezilla for passworded ftp access, uploaded it, started the setup process and at that point I encountered the errors and could not continue. I will email the expert tomorrow and get his opinion. I deleted the forum, but encountered several folders that I could not remove.

LOL...i cant connect to FS atm..i guess its best time to do the clean up in forum then:P
